How booking with us works

We price each trip on its own, because the number genuinely moves with your dates, how many of you there are and the hotels you want. Any "from" figure on this site is a starting point for the smallest group in low season, not a quote.

A quote we give you is fixed. Fuel, tolls, parking, permits where we handle them, and the driver's own food and accommodation are inside it. Nothing is added at the end, and the driver will not ask you for anything.

Your meals, entry fees at monuments and monasteries, anything you buy for yourself, and hotels where a trip is quoted car-only. Each trip page lists its own inclusions and exclusions, and that list is the one that counts.

A booking is confirmed when we have your dates in writing and you have paid the advance we agree at the time — it varies with the season and with how much we are booking on your behalf. The balance is settled at the end of the trip. We will tell you the exact figures before you commit to anything; ask, and it will be in writing.

Tell us as early as you can and we will do what we can. Where we have already paid a hotel or a permit on your behalf, what is recoverable depends on what they will refund us, and we will show you what that is rather than keeping the difference. Cancellations close to the date cost more, for the obvious reason that the car has been held for you.

This is a mountain state. Passes close, landslides happen in the monsoon, and snow shuts high roads without notice. If a route becomes unsafe we will change it, and we will tell you why rather than driving it anyway — a driver who says a road is not on today is doing the job correctly.

Where a change costs less than the original plan, you pay the lower figure. Where it costs more, we will agree it with you first. We do not charge for weather, and we do not pretend it will not happen.

The cars are ours and the drivers are people we know. If a vehicle is unavailable we substitute one of the same size or larger at no extra cost. Seat belts are fitted and we would rather you used them. Smoking in the car is not on.

Bring valid photo ID — permits for the inner-line areas need it, and hotels will ask. Tell us honestly about mobility, altitude history or anything medical that affects which routes are sensible; we plan around it without comment, and we cannot plan around what we do not know.
